Blog #14 - 30 Day Ab Challenge: A Matter of Grit - SBN Samantha

A couple months ago, we were asked to complete the 30 Day Ab Challenge by KJN Jeremy.  I started off strong, but puttered out during the final 10 days, and all the progress I made on a stronger core just kind of went out the window.  So, I'm starting again, today.

The reason I'm writing about this has to do with self-discipline and fitness; it's a constant battle.  I have this tendency to start something with fervor and zeal, and then lose my motivation somewhere along the way.  While reading Grit, I've discovered that I don't think I have that much Grit...at least not when it comes to working out. 😂  I'm just not that passionate about exercise, and I think that's why martial arts became such an important part of my life.  I am passionate about learning and developing myself, and that's what martial arts is to me; it just happens to improve fitness as well!

Thinking about the 30 Day Ab Challenge with this in mind, I have decided to focus on the way that improving my core strength will benefit my martial arts development, instead of thinking of it as just "exercise."  Having a stronger core will give me better balance, which will translate to more controlled kicks with better technique.  Having a stronger core will help me improve my center of gravity when doing self-defense movements.  Having a stronger core will help me have better technique while grappling.  Having a stronger core will make me a better martial artist!  I want to be a better martial artist, in fact, I'm passionate about it.

Being a better martial artist is my end goal.  The 30 Day Ab Challenge is an intermediary step to reach that goal.  There we go...time to make it happen! :)

  1. Oh my gosh, I hear you 100 percent! Exercise is not my favorite, but I love martial arts and deep water aerobics because the feel like fun.
