Virtual Training - Michele Normand
Virtual Training - training that exists within the virtual reality of my brain :).
Fighting pain can be stressful enough but when you feel you have done everything you can to heal it and nothing is working, your itching to do everything you did a couple of months ago, the test is coming, and your told to REST. THAT'S PAIN!!! There is NO time for that right now. I have forms to rep out, exercises to do, pull ups, push ups and punches to throw! Yes I can do my forms at 75% with a Mack truck tied to my waist. 75% is not a percentage I can sustain. I want to rep them out at 110% but then I hurt worse. I can do a push up but they are not my best. I haven't attempted a pull up in months and I try to hold back when punching but again it would be easier if my arms were tied to a Mack truck. I try to mask the pain mentally and with medicine, it's not working! The other night when I couldn't sleep I began what I now call virtual training. I began to rep out my forms in my head. I first went through every form slowly trying to perfect each and every move. Then I challenged myself to go through them one after another as fast as I could so that I could see where my weakness were with remembering every move. I did this over and over and over again until I fell asleep. The next morning I thought if I can't sleep again or wake up in the middle of the night I will virtually train again :). Well it happened and I trained. I started with forms and then asked my self knowledge base questions, I worked on my boxing combos and started my letter to next years black belt candidates until I fell asleep. It's amazing how much training I can get done in the middle of the night in my head. The best thing is I can do every move with power and no pain. I'm looking forward to tonight's virtual training, maybe I will write next weeks blog, hit my forms again and recite "Attitude" by Charles Swindoll :).

Seriously, this is the best thing you can be doing for yourself right now. I'm proud of you for letting your body rest and giving your mind something to do when you're sleepy!
