Dealing with Limitations - Blog #7 - SBN Samantha

This last week, I've been dealing with some back/joint pain, accompanied by headaches, exhaustion, and nausea.  I'm pretty sure I overdid things last week, working out 6 days, including Saturday with the special training and testing participation, and honestly, we didn't even do that much...at least I don't feel like we did.  It makes me somewhat worried about how things are going to play out as we get closer to the test.  It seems like every time I ramp things up, I have to slow down again.

This is the first test I've had to reign myself in when it comes to physical exertion and the types of movements I'm engaging in, and I'm not doing a good job of it apparently, as this is the third time I've had to take a few days off due to pain/exhaustion.  However, I need to figure it out, because I can't afford to spend 5 days recovering from 6 days of consecutive exercise/intense special training...seems kinda counter-productive.

Okay, so now that I've complained, what am I going to do about it?  Some thoughts I have:
- Limit the amount of movements that impact my back (i.e. back falls, rolls, etc.)
- Spend at least 15min on mobility work every day
- Work on strengthening my back/core
- Make Wednesdays and Sundays a rest days, and limit my workouts to M/T/TH/F/S

  1. This sounds so familiar. All through my test last year, I had to learn to pace myself, or I'd pay the price with injury or joint pain. Be good to yourself. We are so lucky to have KJN Jeremy who understands what that feels like and will help you find the balance. You rock!

  2. Samantha, I hear you loud and clear! I like your idea of rest days, I have been trying to do that myself :)
